Filipino candle brand Duende [dwen-day] is the quarantine baby of De La Salle University grads Denise Arnaldo and Eunice Montilla. They learned how to make their candles by watching YouTube videos, reading blogs and getting tips from chandlers.

Duende [dwen-day] is described as "the mysterious power of art to deeply move a person when viewing a piece of art, watching a performance, or listening to music."

"We chose the name because it matched our vision — to provide a full sensory experience through our candles and the curated Spotify playlists that come with it. Coincidentally, both our names are also in Duende," said Arnaldo.

Duende was perfect for mostly everyone's new WFH lifestyle in quarantine. Everybody was buying pajamas, house dresses and bed linens. Naturally, they would also buy scented candles.

"As we grew older, our appreciation for self-care and music also grew. There’s just something special about lighting a scented candle and listening to your favorite tracks at the same time — whether it’s to start our day or before heading to sleep. It’s therapeutic and it’s an experience we would love to share with people," said Arnaldo.

Arnaldo and Montilla, who are both K-pop fans, pay tribute to two of BTS' most loved tracks — "Spring Day" and "Life Goes On" — in one of their candle sets called Euphoria.

The other candle set is called Lumiére and is inspired by "Here Comes The Sun" by The Beatles and "Warm On A Cold Night" by Honne.

For the Lumiére Set, the fragrance profile is fresh bamboo and jasmine for "Here Comes The Sun" and lavender, jasmine and vanilla for "Warm On A Cold Night."

For the Euphoria Set, it's gardenia for "Spring Day" and ylang ylang and peppermint for "Life Goes On."

"We started this business without high expectations," said Arnaldo.

But the response has been overwhelming.
